What Is a Robot Vacuum Cleaner?
Robot vacuum cleaners have grown in popularity in the past few years, and many different companies manufacture them. These types of vacuums are used to clean homes and businesses autonomously, using sensors and a map of the area to navigate and create a cleaning plan.
Most robot vacuum cleaners have a method of charging themselves when their battery is low. Most return to a docking station to charge when they are finished cleaning. Some do not come with a docking station, but it can be purchased separately from the manufacturer.
They usually have multiple sensors to prevent them from falling down stairs or getting stuck under furniture. Wall-following sensors tell the robot where the walls are in the area, and bumpers around its perimeter help protect it from crashing into chairs or other obstacles in its path when cleaning a room. The best robot vacuums use laser navigation instead of wall-following technology, which is less susceptible to errors caused by clutter in a home or business’s floor plan.
Robot vacuum cleaners are growing in popularity, but not all robot vacuums are created equal. Some types only have the ability to schedule a time for them to start cleaning; they return to their docking station when finished, and must be emptied by hand. Others can be started manually when needed instead of scheduled. The most advanced robot vacuums include mapping software that tells it where rooms are and allows it to clean an entire level of a home or business without missing any spots. These robots also use lasers in place of bumpers for added accuracy in room navigation.
Some robot vacuum cleaners come with docking stations, while others do not. If one is not included in the purchase price, it can usually be purchased separately from the manufacturer. The docking station is used to store the robot vacuum cleaner when it is finished cleaning, as well as to charge it for its next use. Some robot vacuums return to a docking station automatically when their battery starts to run low; others need to be manually started at this point.

Review:
This is a really great robot vacuum with tons of great features. I originally tried a competitor’s robot because of a sale, but decided to try the Roborock robots because of the LiDAR navigation. My first foray into the Roborock lineup was the S4–excellent navigation, reasonable ability to clean on low pile carpets, superior cleanup of dog hair from a high-shed breed…however, the robot struggled with going over thresholds between my kitchen, dining rooms, and bathrooms.
2. Eufy by Anker, BoostIQ RoboVac 11S (Slim), Robot Vacuum Cleaner, Super-Thin, 1300Pa Strong Suction
Review:
I have been an iRobot Roomba buyer since 2007. My last Roomba bit the dust this month, and I did a ton of research before buying a replacement. I went with the Eufy for a few reasons: price point, cleaning power, quietness, and sleek design. Price: Very reasonable. Almost reasonable enough that I’d consider getting another one for my second floor. For now I’ll just carry it upstairs. Cleaning power: This thing sucks… It’s suction is much stronger than my Roombas have had. It picks up so much dust and pet hair. We do a full vacuum every other week with my Dyson, so I think of the robot vacuum as a supplemental vacuum. I was shocked at how much was in the dustbin after it’s inaugural cleaning! The picture attached to this is from that cleaning. It also gets a ton of dust in the little dust filter. In one of the video reviews I watched, the reviewer said it didn’t pick up anything in that dust filter… So maybe my carpet is particularly dusty, because it has a thick layer after each cleaning.
As far as clarity goes, I believe 720 is plenty for this screen size. I’m a bit of a TV snob and the lower clarity is not noticeable in this size.
Lastly, I have been very pleased with the WiFi reception of the built in FireTV. It actually works a lot better than the USB plug in external fire sticks, for whatever reason. Super handy in campgrounds with weak WiFi or when using my phones hotspot. Great buy!
3. Shark AV1010AE IQ Robot Vacuum with XL Self-Empty Base, Advanced Navigation Mapping
Review:
I now have three of these as I have a very large home. I did not want to overwork “the girls”. I have named them all and they manage to keep the floors well dusted for us. I am not young (80) and it is not the easiest for me to clean this home. Now if they could only do the dusting of furniture and also scrub the bathrooms it would be heavenly.

Review:
Love that it detects drops. Mine handily cleans over a slight drop (half a step) without tumbling over. Solid little cleaner. But like others, this is a 1st generation mopper and it’s fine but not amazing. It will do very lightly dirtied floors but if it hits a fresh or larger stain it will smear it more than not and you’ll have to manually mop anyway. But that does not affect my rating because a) the floor mop tech is in its infancy. b) the price here is really good and c) it does a great job on my kitchen floor. Really picks up dog hair and other tiny things that i can’t even see. I’m always amazed when i open the container and find it full. Very impressive
6. SAMSUNG Jet Bot AI+ Robot Vacuum Cleaner, Object Recognition, Intelligent Cleaning, Clean Station
Review:
This is a pretty good vacuum from Samsung and is way better than their previous attempts at robot vacuums. It’s high quality and does a great job of covering all the floors in my house without getting stuck. It does have a few drawbacks though.
